About Kaulike K9…
Aloha! We’re Ashley & Makana - and we’re the owners and head trainers of Kaulike K9. With a shared passion for all things dogs and canine behavior, as well as a love for coaching and helping people, we realized years ago that dog training and behavioral modification was our calling.
While Kaulike K9, LLC has only been around since 2022, we’ve both been in the animal industry for years. Ashley has been working in the animal industry for the last 16 years - first working with wildlife as a volunteer at the Peninsula Humane Society in California, as she went to school for Wildlife & Forestry Management and Conservation (“a-not-as-wild-as-you-may-think” jump from working with raccoons and hawks, to later dogs). She also spent time working at and managing doggie daycares, dog boarding facilities, rescues, and a cat hotel for a time, before landing in the vet med field. Makana too, spent time volunteering at the Hawaiian Humane Society, before moving up to management in daycare and boarding facilities, as well as eventually becoming a managing staff member for a department, in a local animal clinic.
It was at a doggie daycare on O’ahu, where Ashley and Makana both got to work under and with an amazing trainer, and later a training company, and got to begin developing their skills with dog behavior, psychology, canine social development, and techniques relating to animal handling & communication (not only with dogs, but just as importantly, with the humans who loved them too!). And it was a couple years later, in a dimly lit kennel room, that the idea for Kaulike K9 was first born. Ashley and Makana had been talking about the idea of wanting to find a way to help local owners and their dogs for a long time. Constantly seeing owners come into the animal clinic, and hearing about their struggles, while they also built long lasting relationships with these same owners and dogs - they couldn’t help but want to find some way to help. In 2019, after being called by a rescue friend, to help evaluate some dogs being brought out of a hoarding situation; they started really putting their education first, and started attending and taking as many classes, courses, seminars, workshops, and webinars as they could. Learning and taking in whatever knowledge they could absorb, while still trying to give back to their community.
In 2022, after changes in their work environments, it became the perfect time to have their dreams become reality. And with the support of their family, friends, and clients who so dedicatedly wanted to join them on their new journey and business endeavor, Ashley and Makana officially opened Kaulike K9, LLC in April of 2022.
Our mission is to always help create the most fulfilling and successful lives possible for the dogs, humans, and community that we work with. Our goal is to never stop learning and growing - right along with you & your dog - so that we’re always striving to be the best versions of ourselves, so that we can be the best dog trainers and human coaches for you!

This is our most recommended service, for owners looking for the most individualized one-on-one coaching and care, along with practical guidance to see the most lasting results in your dog training.
We come to you (unless otherwise specified!), to work with you, your family members, and your dog in your home, to help navigate and facilitate a training plan that will truly have an impact on your life with your canine companion. Private sessions are scheduled with both head trainers, Ashley & Makana, present - so you’re able to have double the amount of professional help within a single session.

For puppies under 6 months of age -
Our puppy jumpstart program, for everything that you and your dog need to get started off on the right foot! We’ll go over crate training, potty training, proper socialization and exposure - as well as critical development and socialization periods, marker training, the foundations of basic obedience, as well as lots of canine psychology and strong relationship building.
Single Session: $180.00 per 60-min

For owners looking to continue training post completion of our puppy jumpstart program, we offered discounts on continued education as well as on day trains, so that we may continue to assist you and your pup into adulthood!

Our day train program allows us to help cultivate new appropriate behaviors when working in tandem with private sessions, and/or continue to manage, progress, and maintain behaviors after training packages have been completed.
We are able to train while owners are away, or sometimes even work more in a more immersive fashion, around the homes/areas/triggers where the dogs are experiencing the most sensitives or behavioral issues.
Dogs on day trains spend 4-hours, one-on-one with an individual trainer (either Ashley or Makana) - where we can run through things like real world exposure training, proper socialization & neutrality work, rules & boundaries, obedience, and activities during a shorter, more digestible day.
Pick-up and drop-off to your home are included in price (although travel fees may be charged for clients outside of a certain radius), homework, access to complimentary virtual sessions for coaching, and videos of the day trains themselves also included.

Our virtual coaching is accessible and personalized training, for owners who want to work on their dogs’ needs and behaviors from the comfort of their own home. An ideal option for if you live outside of O’ahu, or just need extra human coaching outside of a normal private (1-on-1) session.
Coaching sessions may be held over Discord, Zoom, or FaceTime. Not suitable for all major behavior rehabilitation cases.

Are you looking to do excursions with your dog in a structured & supportive environment? Pack walks are a wonderful activity for dogs and owners who are striving to maintain their training strategies and continue to try and make it a part of their lifestyles.
And our community pack walks allow us to give something back to our Kaulike K9 ‘Ohana, as a “perk” of being our client, while getting to see and work with our past and current clients.
